MuSiKa is a unique collaboration between the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent and Intercultural Music Center De Centrale. The project brings together two different art forms – music and visual art. Shalan Alhamwy and Ehsan Yadollahi wrote music inspired by 10 works out of the MSK collection. Audio guides with this music are available to the visitors to experience the collection in a different way.

Safar

The first album of Damast Duo contains music from all the way through between Syria and Belgium, that’s why it is called Safar, travelling in Arabic. Violinist Shalan Alhamwy and accordionist Jonas Malfliet bring together a wide repertoire of Arabic and European folk music and inspired originals. Improvised ideas flow atop the combined Eastern and Western traditions. As they transcend borders, this duo maintains respect for tradition while adding their own unique flair.

Liqa’

Liqa’ means meeting in Arabic. The Ghent Folk Violin Project started in 2012 and is an initiative of violinist/composer Wouter Vandenabeele. In this new CD, GFVP mixes traditional melodies with new compositions where the violin plays the important role.
