The violin has been a cornerstone in Arabic music since the establishment of the Takht ensemble. It is an indispensable part of the musical heritage of countries like Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Palestine, and Turkey. Shalan, an expert in Middle-Eastern violin, shares his knowledge with students and leads courses, masterclasses and workshops and gives lectures both in Belgium and beyond.

Armed with a classical violin education, Shalan brings a structured approach to teaching Middle-Eastern violin. In his workshops, he covers essential topics such as Maqams, theory, history, forms, ornaments, and improvisations (Taksim).
